BENCH KIT CHECK OFF


Completing your laboratory modules includes checking off and returning the apparatus you were allocated at the start of your course. For safety reasons it is important that you leave the apparatus perfectly clean.

Bring your checklist to ensure your kit is complete and to identify surplus items for return to the appropriate place. Apparatus lists:

  • CH2000 Benchkit cupboard
  • CH2000 Benchkit box
  • CH3000 Benchkit
  • CH4000 Benchkit

  • Sessions available are listed here, remember you must make sure the apparatus is perfectly clean BEFORE your checkoff session.

    Clean-up check-list:
  • Check contents against inventory
  • Return borrowed items to the correct place
  • Dispose of waste material:
  • Organic waste: halogenated organic waste bottle
  • Drying agents (CaCl2, MgSO4, Na2SO4): decontaminate then wash down sink
  • Toxic inorganic waste: specific labelled containers
  • Low hazard inorganic waste: controlled waste container
  • Empty sample vials: glass bin
  • Melting point tubes, TLC spotters, droppers: glass bin
  • Filter papers, cotton wool: decontaminate then into normal waste bin
  • Put surplus kit items into lost and found
  • Recover missing items from lost and found
  • Ensure everything is clean and dry (volumetric flasks and pipettes may be left wet inside with deionised water, NOT acetone)
  • Remove pen marks and paper labels
  • Clean the box or drawer and cupboard interiors
  • Check-off check-list:
  • Set everything out on the bench in list order
  • Have the kit checked by a technician
  • Empty clothes locker and return your keys
